Women tennis: Dementieva gold medalist; Safina in silver

August 17th, 2008

The Olympic tennis center of Beijing was fully packed, hours before the final game that joined Elena Dementieva (seeded 5th in world ranking) and Dinara Safina( ranked 6th), in a conclusion of the Female singles tournament. Everyone anticipated the start and the end, to know who will be the gold medalist.

Dementieva’s come back into the game was a disappointing fact for Safina, who was 1 set away from wearing a golden medal. Dementieva was a bit better in the last hour of the game that lasted for 2 and half hours. Lucky crowds!

Beijing centre applauded Elena’s will to win, and cheered in support of the 2000 Olympics silver medalist.

Betting sites and panels indicated earlier before the match, that odds are almost equal among the 2 ladies! What really mattered is that the crowded stadium enjoyed the last singles tennis celebration; it was really eye catching and nervous

Michael Phelps, World’s Best swimmer ever!!! History re-writing!

August 17th, 2008

America’s super hero in swimming, Michael Phelps just made history by winning all 8 gold medals. Each 1 of them is special for the Yankee who broke the world record time in the 1st round of the competition!

Mark Spitz’s record of 7 medals is now gone, after 36 years: it is Phelps time!

8 are what any athlete couldn’t reach in Beijing, while admitting that nothing is impossible.

The 23 year old idol was thrilled full of excitement, missing nothing and no one but his mother, as her pride in Michael, beyond doubt grew at the same time as he made his 8th reward during the 4×100 meters medley relay.

Sports news and betting sites were making it look hard, coming clear those 8 medals is beyond reason and that it can’t be done; Phelps’s imagination helped him achieve the unpredictable blowing away all the odds.

USA’s talent in the Beijing’s Olympics earlier dominated the 400 individual medley, 4×100 freestyle relay, 200 freestyle, 200 butterfly, 4×200 freestyle relay, 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly en route towards being the world’s best swimmer ever.

Michael’s total number of medals is now 14, adding the 6 golden medals of Athens, keeping sports news and TV programmers to wonder about his speed secret. Investigations and analyzing went too far this time, talking about Phelps’s diet: a probable explanation and a secret weapon!

Personally, I think it wouldn’t take long before seeing Phelps advertising for nutritional products or sports equipment on TV.

The ultimate contestant just made it into the sports books and sports news, I would bet on him as the athlete of the year, and of the few years to come!

Nigeria – Ivory Coast: will Nigeria’s dream team 4, win in Beijing?

August 17th, 2008

A wholesome African derby game, joining as one an unbelievable wonderful crowd betting on a happy ending, and hoping to be the very last team to join Brazil’s Selacao, Italy’s Squadra Azura and Argentina’s tango boys into the semi-finals, and benefit from winning at least a medal, and why not? A golden one!

As the 1st half was going to an end, not much was happening on the game’s field, until seconds from reaching the break, when Peter Odemwingie stroke a VOLET shot into the elephants’ net, giving Nigeria the lead by 1 to null.

After the break, it was a bit different. Cote d’Ivoire managing a chance or two every few minutes, yet incapable of setting the game their way. Unwilling to get the fixture sweep away, the whole team was participating in building offensive strategies, leaving a vulnerable defense behind; scoring a goal was the last and only hope, it’s either that, or going home.

In the 82nd minute, Cameroonian Chinedu earned a penalty after being brought down by the Orange defender; captain Obinna converted the shot into a 2nd goal, killing any coasters’ hope of moving on in the Olympics.

Nigeria will face Belgium in the last game before the final! Both nations are eager to step into Beijing’s ultimate game and set a winning history. Sports news affirmed the similarity between Nigeria’s Olympic winners in 94 and Nigeria’s 2008 team. Will Africans win again, and beat any expected odds? Will the dream team of Africa be a nightmare for all Belgium efforts?

Germany(w) – Sweden(w): Over time DRAMA

August 16th, 2008

Both teams were cautious, and much alerted. Exchanging balls with no specific purpose, or drawn plans, it came up clear that everyone was betting on the other to take the 1st step. 90 minutes of low level soccer jaded the crowds in Shenyang Olympic stadium.

Dagmova Dakmar ordered the kick off: this is over-time, and the boring process seemed infinite.

Odds were all thrown away, as German selection scored twice in the extra time. Kerstin(105th) And Simone Laudehr (115th) held Deutschland up in score, earning a ticket into the semi finals.

Germans will have to face Brazil, for the passage into the final game. With both teams looking like a winning bet to stand up tall with gold, some Sports news concluded that it’s an early final.

Individually, I wouldn’t bet on 1 team, knowing the United States ladies are also capable of making a good game, both physically and mentally
