Women basketball: Korea 72 – Latvia 68; Asian champions into the final 8

August 17th, 2008

Asian champions achieved their primary goal, which was to move into the final 8, and prove themselves capable amongst the Europeans and Americans.

Latvia though, wasn’t an easy opponent, with a game un-ended before the final whistle; none of both sides was ready to compromise. Latvia’s comeback into the game reduced the difference of 17 points into only 2 in the remaining 12 seconds, and that put the Koreans into a huge circle of pressure and tension! skirmishing with determination and passion, they finished the game by 4 dots thanks to the free throws!

Asians don’t look to be a much winning bet in their next game against the States of America who are measured as the premium favorite in Beijing’s basketball tour. Nevertheless, the new qualified Korea will try to look good on TV in order to preserve their Asian dignity and pride of being the continent’s Champions.

Chinese miracle? Yao snaps nowitzki 59-55 & goes into final 8

August 17th, 2008

The game was tensed, full of nervousness, especially with the 2 foreign NBA stars placed head to head.

Yao ming who plays for the Houston Rockets had to lead China into a definite and urgent win against Dallas Macericks’ Dirk Nowtizki and team mates.

Played in the final seconds, the nerves exhausting game was being watched by millions, for its importance; a win qualifies the host nation into the quarter final.

Despite the Germans come back into the game, nowitzki’s 24 points weren’t enough to stop the 3 pointer of China in the final 18 seconds.

The difference was now of 4 points and is hard to reduce despite the NBA’s German final shot from long range, hopelessly unframed. Deutschland is unfortunately knocked out, while China passes into the next level.

German coach is proud of his team’s performance, despite the elimination and wished his team could keep up with leading the game, such as it was before the break!

From the Asian point of view, it was a huge enthusiastic moment, a bit hard, but after a long series of criticism on TV and sports news, they made it through. Their qualification posted them against Greece, a much anticipated game for the hosting nation this 18th.

DREAM TEAM is back!

August 17th, 2008

Coach Mike Kryzewski and Co. are soaring too high for being reached. The USA team is definitely worth the surname of “dream team”, reminding us of the previous line ups during the late 90s, with a Magical Magic Johnson, Sir Charles Barkley, mail man Carl Malone and on top of all, the flying Michael Air Jordan accompanied with others; an era, during which, nations played for the silver medals, incapable of looking the world’s best players in the eye.

After 2 world championships disappointments and a bad reflection in Athens 2004, eagles are this time clearly, and with no doubts the best bet to make for Beijing’s golden award. I wonder if betting on the winner’s name has got any importance now, because it seems that fighting on the gold medal is apparently out of question!

Playing for “silver or bronze” concept, is back into the world’s basketball teams and players minds.

Basketball betting’s no more a gamble!?? USA tears down Spain 119-82

August 17th, 2008

Domination remains, dream team nomination is finally for real. Eagles unleashed in a game of Eagles poles against Spain were incredibly thrilling and supernatural, sucking all the intensity out of the Spaniards and turning the game into their own approach. Yellow basketball jerseys were forced into 28 turnovers, in face of the most ferocious defense, talking of China’s wall!

Although including a number of NBA players, and European stars, Pau Gasol and Spanish mates were left behind in  keeping count, suffering from a poor field score percentage (6of 28 in long range shots), turnovers and slow movements! Americans were faster and better:

Lebron James scored 18, dwayne wade and Anthony (4 of 6 in 3 points shot) ended up with 16 points each. 8 of the US lineup were “score wise” double figured.

Pau Gasol uncertainty about the team’s performance during the game was faced by a relief in the Yankees side who made it clear that they are getting better!

The declaration can be understood in 2 ways:

  • 1- The dream team can be much stronger and violent in tearing apart every opponent.
  • 2- A clear alert and a loud warning for challengers to seek silver or bronze, nothing else.

As for the sports betting sites, the leader on sheets is way ahead of the others. USA looks like the best bet in men’s basketball tournament.

W. basketball: 3 pointers from Miao Lijie lead China’s conquest over Mali

August 16th, 2008

Dragons’ extreme defense drove Mali to commit 21 turnovers. China’s effort paid off finally, while moving up to the 2nd place in group B, in a 69-48 triumph in the game. Basketball tickets who were sold out in Wukesong arena gave a special privilege to the crowded stadium, where supporters were cheering in favor of their hosting team. For Asia’s biggest nation who had beaten the United States during the Basketball testing event, winning a medal is definitely a good bet. TV and sports news in China are forming huge campaigns to encourage their local team looking good so far.

China who got motivated after beating the Spaniards, were looking forward to a 2nd position in their group, in order to avoid a confrontation with the Australians, seizers of the world championship

Women basketball: Belarus in the final 8, beating Korea

August 16th, 2008

A new bluster in the Olympics! Belarus fronted by Anatoly Buyalski responded in “revolution” to their pre-lost game with Russia, and filled the crowds of Beijing’s Wukesong Arena with high spirits after beating Koreans by 10 points, 63-53; in tallness mismatched game while out-rebounding the shorter Koreans.

West Europeans have moved to the quarter finals, tossing 90% of the sports betting and odds, and will be playing amongst the best teams of the world.

The finest piece of the game was from the 2 knees ill-treated Yelena Leuchanka, who overcame the sting, scoring 10 dots along with 14 rebounds.

Belarus will have to work on reducing its turnover (30 turnovers against Korea) while facing the Brazilians in their next match.

USA – Spain: a reply message to Australia

August 16th, 2008

Spaniards were playing to win! They wanted to show the world that it’s not always about the States and Australia. Spain’s women team influenced by the men’s world championship title, made out of the 1st half a fierce battle with a strategy of “follow the leader”. At half time ESPANIA was only 5 points behind, 39-34.

3rd quarter was a turning point, as US coach Donovan put a winning bet on her team’s defensive strength, keeping Spain scoreless for 2 minutes and 19 seconds. Latinas were looking tensed, unable to break the eagles net, followed by a suspicious foul on Montanana who couldn’t help sending a protest towards the referee. And as if it wasn’t enough, Spanish trouble was going together with 2 turnovers, which the Yankees transformed into valuable points, creating a comfortable lead.

At the end it was 93-55, with a huge Spanish disappointment and a happy American coach, who considered that her team was tested for the 1st time in these Olympics and came out of it TALL.

From the other side, Spain’s coach gave no excuses and agreed along with her players, that playing against USA calls for 40 minutes of focus; we played for only 20 minutes.

Just like the men’s game, basketball tickets are out of being sold…. Sports news and TV gave a gigantic push for women basketball, that’s turning into a very popular sport.

America’s victory today, is a reply to the kangaroo’s smashing triumph against Latvia. Bets and odds are all circling around an Anglophonic final that joins Aussies and Yankees!

Lisa Leslie sets a new record: Records are made to be broken

August 15th, 2008

American Lisa Leslie out came the scoring average, that was held by Katie Smith, Lisa’s actual team mate (100% 6 of 6), setting the new record to 100%, 7 out of 7 from the field. Leslie’s achievement took place during the game against Mali.

A new realization could take place, if the star-full basketball jerseys win Beijing’s finals, earning by that a 5th consecutive Olympic title in a row.

Unstopped Russian demonstration against Brazil

August 15th, 2008

After trailing all along the game, Russian girls finally decided to change what was going to be a 1st samba victory in Beijing.

They waited till the 4th quarter of the game, to put in action what they really are capable of doing, starting by out-rebounding Brazil’s devoted jerseys 47-28, tracked by a 20-8 out-scores to leave their South American opponents late by 10 points at the final whistle: 74-64.

Russia will be facing Australia, in a fierce fight of leadership in their group, while Brazil’s women have lost any hope of qualifying, after 3 streak loosed games.
